Last updated 8 October 2026. Applies to ReelRank as published on the Chrome Web Store.
ReelRank does not collect your data. There is no account, no server and no analytics. Everything it works out stays in your browser, on your computer.
ReelRank runs only on instagram.com. While you browse, Instagram
sends your browser the details of the posts it shows you — view counts, likes,
comments, captions, dates. ReelRank reads a copy of those responses as they
arrive and works out the rankings from them.
It never asks Instagram for anything. It has no way to request data you have not already loaded by browsing normally, and it does not run in the background when you are not there.
| What | Where | Sent anywhere? |
|---|---|---|
| Post metrics and captions from profiles you visit | Your browser's local storage | No |
| Posts you save (with a small preview picture), your notes and collections | Your browser's local storage | No |
| Small preview pictures of reels you have scrolled past | Your browser's local storage | No |
| Your sort preferences | Your browser's local storage | No |
Video and image links are deliberately discarded before anything is saved. They expire within hours and keeping them would serve no purpose.
To show thumbnails, ReelRank keeps small preview pictures (a few kilobytes each) of reels you have scrolled past, copied from the images already on your screen — nothing is downloaded for this. They are stored only on your computer, the oldest are removed automatically (at most a few hundred), and a post you save to your library keeps its own. All of it is deleted with ReelRank.
ReelRank reads one cookie, ds_user_id, purely to check whether a
post belongs to you before letting you save your own video. That value is
never stored and never leaves your computer.
ReelRank will only save a video from a post your own signed-in account published. This is enforced in code, not by policy: if the post owner does not match your account, the download is refused.
Removing ReelRank from Chrome deletes everything it has stored. There is no copy anywhere else, because nothing was ever sent anywhere else. You can also clear individual profiles from inside the extension at any time.
A future version may offer optional backup and sync between your own devices. If that ships, it will be off by default, will require you to sign in deliberately, and this page will be updated before it is released — along with a clear notice inside the extension itself. Nothing will start leaving your computer without you switching it on.
